It was only a little over an inch spaced over a few days, but it was just enough to tell a few of my favorite life forms (fungi in case you haven't guessed) that it was just safe enough to pop up, aka "fruit". Sunday morning it looked like I'd have a few hours before the next rainstorm was due, so I grabbed the camera bag and headed out to some of my favorite fungus hunting spots.
It felt glorious. Damp, cool and gray - perfect weather for fungus photo ops. There weren't exactly thousands but I found a few of my old favorites. The only group that was new to me - or at least I didn't remember it looking like this, was this group of leathery looking fungi, although maybe it's not fungi maybe it's lichen. Which is itself an odd combination of fungi and algae (or sometimes fungi and bacteria).
When I got back to the house well past what would normally be my lunchtime, I was quite soggy on my lower half from sitting and lying on the ground getting my shots. It just doesn't get better than that.
