I Decided I Had Enough Things for a Series

Therefore, I created a new gallery, located here.

I am ambivalent in my feelings about cows. Overall, I don't like them much. Usually, they seem kind of stupid and I get why applying the word bovine as a description is a bit of an insult. They are not clean in their habits, pooping anywhere and everywhere and in a way that often bespatters their own backsides. (Blech.)

However, I live in a spot where many of my nearest neighbors run cattle and there are days when I can't help but point a camera in their direction. Some individual cows have earned my respect, specifically the Spotted Cow, whose portrait is included here. I appreciate her wily nature.  This particular cow I have been observing for two years now - she showed up on a neighbor's property with her long-horned mom and I've seen her off and on ever since.

On many occasions, I have been busy taking pictures of other things - a mushroom or a flower - and become aware of a prickly feeling that means I'm being watched. When I look up, I find myself being observed by a cow, actually in this case a bull.  On the day I took this photograph, this bull walked up one side of the river while I walked up the other side of the river. Then we both walked down again - finally he decided to cross over to look for his girlfriends.
