I Know There Are Others Who Appreciate Slime Molds Too

My big expedition this weekend took me up the Martha Washington Creek streambed, which gratifyingly was not completely dry in spite of the continuing exceptional drought. As always, I kept my eyes peeled for things living on the moist(ish) slopes and rotting logs. I wasn't having much success with my usual targets, but finally was exceedingly excited when I discovered a large dead pine sporting four species of slime mold.

This was the most interesting and photogenic of them:  (probably) Lycogala epidendrum, common name Wolf's Milk.
